Product Summary

The Gorman-Rupp Super T Series T4A60S-B is a heavy-duty self-priming centrifugal pump engineered for the most demanding solids-handling applications in municipal, industrial, and mining environments. With its industry-leading 4-inch suction capability and ability to pass 3-inch diameter spherical solids, this pump delivers exceptional performance in bypass pumping, dewatering, sludge transfer, and high-volume wastewater applications where conventional pumps fail.

  • Industry-Leading Solids Handling: Passes up to 3-inch diameter spherical solids through 4-inch suction and 2-inch discharge connections, making it ideal for raw sewage, mining slurries, construction dewatering, and debris-laden applications
  • Superior Self-Priming Capability: Achieves up to 6-meter suction lift with rapid priming and repriming, eliminating expensive foot valves and enabling above-ground installation in even the most challenging applications
  • Heavy-Duty Industrial Construction: Reinforced cast iron casing with optional wastewater (/WW) and stainless steel configurations, hardened wear surfaces, field-serviceable back cover design, and integrated pressure relief valve for maximum durability
  • Minimal Downtime Maintenance: Back cover provides complete access to all wearing parts without disconnecting piping—impeller, wear plate, seal, and check valve all accessible for rapid field service
  • Flexible Drive Options: Compatible with electric motors (single/three-phase), diesel/petrol engines, or bare shaft configurations with flexible coupling or V-belt drive arrangements

Troubleshooting, Common Faults & Solutions

Pump Fails to Prime

Likely Cause: Strainer clogged, suction lift too high, leaking seal or gasket, collapsed suction hose lining, or air leak in suction line

Action / Part: Clean strainer, verify suction lift within 6m maximum, check pump vacuum (should pull 20" Hg or more), replace leaking seal (46513-151) or gaskets (10959G, S1674), replace collapsed suction hose, seal all suction line connections with pipe dope

Pump Stops or Fails to Deliver Rated Flow/Pressure

Likely Cause: Air leak in suction, worn seal/gasket, insufficient liquid in casing, contaminated check valve, plugged air release valve, clogged impeller, discharge head too low, or worn impeller/wear plate

Action / Part: Seal suction leaks, replace seal (46513-151) or gaskets, refill pump casing through fill cover (priming), clean/replace check valve assembly (46411-062), clear air release valve/piping, remove impeller debris, adjust discharge valve, check impeller-to-wear plate clearance (.010-.020"), replace worn impeller (10528) and/or wear plate assembly (10532A)

Pump Requires Too Much Power

Likely Cause: Pump speed too high, discharge head too low, liquid too thick

Action / Part: Check driver output speed, verify sheaves/couplings correctly sized, adjust discharge valve to increase head, dilute liquid if possible, open discharge valve fully and run at maximum governed speed

Pump Clogs Frequently

Likely Cause: Strainer clogged, check valve binding, suction lift too high, impeller clogged/damaged, pump speed too slow, or suction intake not properly submerged

Action / Part: Clean strainer regularly, clean check valve (46411-062), verify suction lift within 6m, clear impeller debris or replace if damaged (10528), check driver output for proper speed, verify belts/couplings not slipping, ensure suction intake submerged per manual Figure 2 specifications

Excessive Noise / Cavitation

Likely Cause: Cavitation (air in liquid, blocked foot valve/strainer, restriction in line, excessive suction lift), pump not securely mounted, or pumping entrained air

Action / Part: Reduce suction lift and friction losses, clean foot valve/strainer, record vacuum/pressure gauge readings (consult factory if needed), secure all mounting hardware, eliminate air bubble source, verify proper suction pipe submergence

Bearings Run Too Hot

Likely Cause: Low/incorrect lubricant, drive misaligned, pump speed too high, bearing frozen, or piping not properly supported

Action / Part: Note: Bearings normally run to 160°F (71°C). Check SAE No. 30 non-detergent oil level via sight gauge (23A) - maintain at middle of gauge, align drive properly (see manual Section B), reduce power source speed, check/replace bearings (S1088, S375) if frozen, support suction/discharge lines independently

Seal Leakage

Likely Cause: Worn/damaged cartridge seal, insufficient seal cavity lubrication, or contaminated seal faces

Action / Part: Replace complete cartridge seal assembly (46513-151) - never reuse old seal, fill seal cavity with SAE No. 30 non-detergent oil to middle of sight gauge (23), verify seal plate gasket (10959G) not leaking, check O-rings (S1674) for damage. NOTE: White reflector in sight gauge must be positioned horizontally for proper drainage

Pump Overheats / Pressure Relief Valve Activates

Likely Cause: Operating against closed discharge valve, insufficient flow, liquid temperature exceeds 160°F (71°C), or pump running dry

Action / Part: CRITICAL: Stop pump immediately if overheated - allow complete cooling before servicing. Never remove covers/plugs from hot pump. Open discharge valve, verify sufficient flow, cool liquid if over 160°F, refill pump casing if run dry (priming), replace pressure relief valve (26662-005) after any overheating event

Incorrect Rotation (Three-Phase Motors)

Likely Cause: Three-phase wiring incorrect

Action / Part: CRITICAL: Correct rotation is counterclockwise when facing impeller. Running pump in reverse will cause impeller to unscrew from shaft, causing severe damage. Disconnect pump from motor before checking rotation. Have qualified electrician interchange any two of three phase wires to change direction
