Grundfos SEG Pumps
Spare Parts for SEG Range Pumps
Product Summary
Genuine and compatible spare parts for the Grundfos SEG submersible grinder pump, used across Australia in pressure sewer systems, small council and private sewage pump stations, and buildings that pump raw sewage through small-bore rising mains. Every SEG from the 0.9 kW SEG.40.09 to the 4 kW SEG.50.40 shares the same service build (cutting system, impeller, shaft seal and sealed motor), so tick what you need and we’ll match the exact kit to your nameplate (e.g. SEG.40.12.2.50B).
Spare Parts List
✓ Tick the parts you need. Grundfos SEG service kits are matched to the hydraulic size, motor and build, so your nameplate model is all we need to get them right. Not sure which items? Add a photo of the nameplate and we’ll work out the kit for you.
| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Cutting System Kit | The rotating cutter and stationary cutting ring (grinder ring) that shred solids before they reach the impeller, with fixing parts. Replace when the edges are chipped or rounded: a blunt cutter overloads the motor and causes blockages. | |
| Shaft Seal Kit | Mechanical shaft seal kit with its O-rings, seal ring and fitting parts. Replace at the first sign of water in the oil chamber or a leak at the shaft. | |
| Impeller Kit | The SEG impeller with its fixing parts, matched to your kW. Replace if worn, chipped or rubbing. | |
| O-ring & Gasket Kit | O-rings and gaskets for the pump housing, oil chamber and plugs. Renew whenever the pump is opened. | |
| Oil Kit | Fresh oil for the oil chamber at every seal change or inspection. Water or emulsified oil means the shaft seal has failed. | |
| Cable Kit | Replacement power cable (10 m standard; 15–50 m and screened cable for VSD use to order) with the cable entry seals. Fit if the cable is cut, crushed or wicking water. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Auto-Coupling & Guide Rail Fittings | Auto-coupling base, guide claw and upper guide rail brackets for the SEG DN40 or DN50 discharge. | |
| Lifting Chain | Lifting chain and shackles sized to the pump. Always lift by the chain, never the cable. | |
| Motor / Stator Service | Motor bearings, stator rewind or a replacement motor unit matched to your kW and supply (single- or three-phase). | |
| Level Controller | Grundfos LC 241 level controller for one or two pumps. Single-phase SEG pumps need a controller with the built-in start and run capacitors. | |
| Start / Run Capacitors | Start and run capacitors for single-phase SEG pumps, matched to the pump. A failed capacitor stops the pump starting or makes it hum and trip. | |
| Complete Replacement Pump | When a rebuild doesn’t stack up, we quote a like-for-like SEG from the model on your nameplate. | |
How we confirm the exact part: Grundfos SEG kits depend on the discharge size, motor power, supply and generation. The model reads grinder type, discharge (DN), kW × 10, poles and supply code, e.g. SEG.50.31.2.50B = DN50, 3.1 kW, 2-pole, 400–415 V; a “.1.502” ending is single-phase 230 V and “E” marks an AUTOADAPT pump. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the correct part and price for your exact pump.
Models
Spare parts are available for every SEG size in the current Grundfos Australia range, and for earlier generations from the nameplate. The number after the discharge size is kW × 10 (e.g. SEG.40.12 = 1.2 kW).
Models & Key Specifications
| Model | Motor P2 (kW) | Supply | Discharge | Version |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEG.40.09 | 0.9 | 1 × 230 V or 3 × 400–415 V | DN40 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.40.12 | 1.2 | 1 × 230 V or 3 × 400–415 V | DN40 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.40.15 | 1.5 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN40 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.40.26 | 2.6 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN40 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.40.31 | 3.1 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN40 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.40.40 | 4.0 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN40 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.50.26 | 2.6 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN50 | AUTOADAPT (Ex) |
| SEG.50.31 | 3.1 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN50 | Standard (Ex) |
| SEG.50.40 | 4.0 | 3 × 400–415 V | DN50 | Standard (Ex) |
All sizes: 2-pole, submerged installation (no cooling jacket), liquid temperature 0 °C to +40 °C (+60 °C for up to 3 minutes, non-Ex only), pH 4–10, thermal switch motor protection, explosion-proof Ex db to IEC 60079-1, 10 m cable, 50 Hz. Single-phase pumps need a controller with start and run capacitors.
Troubleshooting
Pump blocked or grinder jammed
Likely cause: wipes, rags or hard objects (stones, metal) jammed between the cutter and the cutting ring, or a worn cutting system that tears instead of cuts. Action: isolate the power, lift the pump and clear the inlet; check the cutter and cutting ring for chipped or rounded edges and replace the cutting system kit if worn. A blunt cutting system overloads the motor and trips the thermal switch.
Leaking at the shaft seal or water in the oil
Likely cause: worn seal faces letting water into the oil chamber, often from grit, dry running or age. Action: check the oil at each service: water or emulsified oil means the seal has failed. Fit the shaft seal kit, renew the O-rings and refill with fresh oil before the water reaches the motor.
Thermal trip or overheating
Likely cause: an overload from a blocked or worn impeller, a phase fault, too many starts per hour, or the pump running uncovered and losing its cooling. Action: check the voltage on all phases and the motor current against the nameplate; clear the hydraulic end; check level settings so the pump stays submerged. Repeated trips need a motor inspection.
Low flow or head
Likely cause: wrong rotation, air trapped in the pump, a partly blocked discharge or non-return valve, or wear at the cutting system and impeller. Action: check rotation on three-phase pumps; vent the pump and clear the discharge, valve and auto-coupling; if output still falls short, replace the worn hydraulic parts.
Noise or vibration
Likely cause: solids caught in the impeller, a damaged impeller, worn motor bearings, or the pump not seated properly on the auto-coupling. Action: clear and inspect the impeller; check that the pump sits fully on the auto-coupling base and the guide rails are straight; worn bearings need a motor overhaul.
Pump will not start
Likely cause: no supply, a tripped motor protection, a failed level switch, or a seized pump. Action: check the supply, controller and level switches and reset the protection; with the power isolated, check the impeller turns freely. A seized pump needs inspection of the hydraulic end and bearings.
Damaged cable or water in the cable entry
Likely cause: a cut, crushed or chafed cable from lifting or debris, or a perished cable entry seal. Action: isolate the pump and test the insulation resistance; never splice a submersible cable in the well. Replace the cable kit and cable entry seal, and lift the pump by its chain, never the cable.
