Masport HD4 and HXL4 Vacuum Pumps
Spare Parts for Masport HD4 and HXL4 Rotary Vane Vacuum Pumps (V and F, CW and CCW)
Product Summary
Genuine OEM spare parts for the Masport HD4 and the earlier HXL4, the air-cooled 1½" rotary vane vacuum pump fitted to septic, grease trap and portable toilet service trucks and slide-in liquid waste units across Australia. Both generations take the same Replacement Parts Kit 14619 and vane pack 975393, so tick what you need and we’ll match the rest to your model tag, such as HD4V or HXL4F.
Spare Parts List
✓ Tick the parts you need. Masport HD4 parts are matched to the build on the nameplate (V vacuum/pressure or F vacuum only, plus CW or CCW rotation where relevant) and the serial number, so those details are all we need to get them right. Not sure which items? Add a photo of the nameplate and we’ll work it out for you.
| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Replacement Parts Kit (Rebuild Kit) | Masport’s service set for the HD4 and HXL4: vane pack, bearings, bearing spacers, oil seals, end cover shims and O-rings, valve and flange gaskets, plus the oil pump drive coupler and tension pin. Order it when the vanes and bearings are due. | |
| Vane Pack (item 30) | The bevelled-edge vanes that slide in the rotor slots and seal against the bore. Check them at least yearly and discard them once they measure 2 3/8" or less, or if bent, dished on one side or frayed on the cylinder edge. | |
| Masport All Seasons Pump Oil | Masport All Seasons Oil, a non-detergent rotary compressor oil for the automatic oil pump: 13980 (1 gal), 13983 (4 gal), 13984 (12 gal). Never run motor, gear, hydraulic or used oil in the pump. | |
| Masport Flushing Fluid | Flushed through the valve’s flushing port to clear carry-over and inhibit rust: 13989 (1 gal), 13991 (4 gal), 13992 (12 gal). Flush weekly, and straight away if liquid or solids have reached the pump. | |
| Wear & Consumable Parts | ||
| Oil Seal (item 2) | Seals the rotor shaft at each end cover. Fit new ones whenever the covers are off, spring side towards the bearing bore; a leaking or reversed seal lets oil past and can lead to bearing failure. | |
| Bearing and Bearing Spacer (HXL4 items 31, 32) | Carry the rotor in the end covers. Blued bearings or a spacer that has rubbed the bore mean both must be renewed; spacers go on with the larger bore towards the rotor. The HD4 tables do not itemise them, so order them in kit 14619. | |
| End Cover O-Ring (item 3) | Seals each end cover against the cylinder face. Supplied in the rebuild kit; renew whenever an end cover is removed or if oil weeps from the cover joint. | |
| End Cover Shim (item 19) | Sets the rotor end float between the covers (0.008–0.010" on the HD4 and HXL4). Count the shims as they come off and refit the same stack, then check the float; oil pump shim 569926 (item 14) is also listed. | |
| Valve, Flange & Valve Cap Gaskets (items 7, 22.17, 22.3) | Seal the four-way valve to the cylinder, the 1½" flanges (or F-model blank flanges) to the ports, and the valve cap; the cap shaft seal is 501578 (item 22.6). Fit new gaskets whenever these joints are broken. | |
| Oil Pump Coupler & Roll Pin (items 28, 10) | Drives the automatic oil pump from the rotor shaft. Both are in the rebuild kit; replace them if the coupler is worn or the pin is sheared, as a stopped oil pump starves the vanes and bearings. | |
| Oil Lines & Fittings (items 21, 15, 16) | Clear lines carrying oil from the pump to the cylinder and both end cover ports. Check after start-up that oil is visibly moving, and renew any line that is cracked, hardened or leaking at the fittings. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Rotor Assembly (item 24) | The slotted rotor, machined and balanced as one piece with its stub shafts, which must never be pulled out. Replace if the slots are burred or worn, or after a vane breakage has damaged it. | |
| Cylinder (item 23) | The pump body and bore. Scoring deeper than .005" or corrugation you can feel means a rebore (HD4: 5.98" new, 6.02" maximum) or a new cylinder. | |
| End Cover (item 25) | Houses the bearing and oil seal at each end of the rotor. Light rotor contact can be lapped out; grooves over .005" mean resurfacing or a new cover. On the HXL4 the oil pump end cover is a separate code. | |
| Four-Way Valve Body & Spool (items 22.1, 22.2) | Switches a V pump between vacuum and pressure through 90° of handle travel, with indicator washer 569724, handle 668055 and non-return valve 968555. The HXL4V uses valve assembly 968350 with body 968349 and spool 968341. | |
| Oil Pump (item 29) | The automatic oil pump that meters oil to the cylinder and end covers. The HD4 pump is pre-set and needs no adjustment; the HXL4 pump must be bled at its bleed screw after any service. | |
| Flange 1½" & Blank Flange (items 22.18, 31) | The 1½" inlet and outlet flanges, and on F (vacuum only) builds the blank flanges that close the unused ports. Replace if the threads or sealing faces are damaged. | |
How we confirm the exact part: item numbers and codes are as printed in the Masport HD4 owner/operator manual (and the HXL4 views in the H/HXL manual). The model tag (e.g. HD4V or HXL4F) and serial number set the build, and some HXL4 parts changed at a serial break: below Q09033 the oil line elbows were 3 × 568086 plus 1 × 568085. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the right parts.
Models
The build (e.g. HD4V) is printed on the pump model tag on the oil pump cover, together with the arrow showing CW or CCW rotation. Please send the serial number with it, as HXL4 parts changed at serial Q09033.

Codes as printed in the Masport HD4, HD75, HD75W, VIPER & HD400W owner/operator manual (updated 19 June 2025) and the HXL4F/HXL4V exploded views in the H1–HXL4 manual; CW and CCW builds share these codes. Replace vanes at 2 3/8" usable height or less. Manual figures: 1,100–1,400 rpm (4.4–7.5 hp on vacuum at that range), 1½" minimum pipe I.D., seal gap 0.003", end float 0.008–0.010", end thrust 0.002". Oil: non-detergent rotary compressor or turbine oil (Masport All Seasons Oil). The HXL4F table prints 501681 against the oil seal (the O-ring code elsewhere), so we confirm that seal at quote.
Troubleshooting
HD4 running hot
Likely cause: wrong oil or an empty reservoir, shaft speed above 1,400 rpm, sustained running past the rated vacuum or pressure, or a clogged inlet filter. Action: check the oil feed and grade, bring the speed back into range, clean the inlet filter and wash mud off the pump body.
Overheating with a restricted line
Likely cause: plumbing narrower than 1½" I.D. or a blocked exhaust. Action: open the system up to the minimum pipe size and clear the exhaust and oil separator.
Rotor jammed or will not turn
Likely cause: a broken vane or bearing, a drive fault, debris in the bore or ice inside the pump. Action: isolate the drive, thaw or clean out the pump, and fit a new vane pack (item 30) or bearings from kit 14619 as found.
Slow to pull vacuum or build pressure
Likely cause: vanes worn below 2 3/8", worn shaft seals, or the four-way valve sitting part-way or in neutral. Action: measure the vanes, renew the oil seals (item 2) and turn the handle fully to vacuum or pressure.
Performance down with no pump fault
Likely cause: tank, pipework or hose leaks, a collapsed hose, a non-return valve that will not open fully, or rpm below 1,100. Action: leak-test the system, swap collapsed hose and bring the drive speed up into range.
Pump sluggish after a trap overflow
Likely cause: liquid has carried over into the pump. Action: flush with Masport Flushing Fluid until it runs clean and check the primary shut-off and secondary moisture traps.
