Troubleshooting, Common Faults & Solutions
Motor Will Not Run
Likely Cause: Thermal overload tripped, blown fuse/power failure, motor defect, or faulty pressure switch (pressure system)
Action / Part: Reset thermal overload (red button on capacitor box for single-phase), check electrical supply and fuses, verify pressure switch operation, test motor windings
No Liquid Delivered / Pump Will Not Prime
Likely Cause: Pump not filled before starting, air leak on suction, discharge head too high, suction lift too high, inlet pipe not submerged, or damaged stator/rotor
Action / Part: Fill pump with liquid through plug (OO CP00 0430) adjacent to suction port, check all suction line joints for air leaks, verify suction lift is within 6 metre maximum, ensure inlet pipe adequately submerged, replace stator (RR CP800 2200) and/or rotor (SF CP800 2520) if worn
Not Enough Liquid Delivered
Likely Cause: Air leak on suction, discharge head too high, suction lift too high, inlet pipe not submerged, or viscosity greater than rating
Action / Part: Check all suction connections for air leaks, verify system head within pump rating, reduce suction lift, increase inlet pipe submersion depth, heat product to reduce viscosity if too thick
Loss of Liquid After Starting
Likely Cause: Air or gas in liquid, air leak on suction, insufficient net inlet head, or blocked inlet
Action / Part: Check for air entrainment in pumped liquid, inspect suction line for leaks, increase suction head, clear inlet blockage including foot valve/strainer
Pump is Noisy (Cavitation)
Likely Cause: Air or gas in liquid, blocked foot valve/strainer, restriction in line, or excessive suction lift
Action / Part: Eliminate air entrainment, clean foot valve and strainer, remove restrictions in suction line, reduce suction lift below 6 metre maximum
Pump Vibrates
Likely Cause: Cavitation (see above) or pump not bolted down firmly
Action / Part: Address cavitation issues, secure all pump mounting bolts firmly to baseplate, check support foot (AL CP800 6200) mounting
Pump Will Not Give Rated Pressure
Likely Cause: Worn stator, rotor, or both
Action / Part: Replace stator (RR CP800 2200) and rotor (SF CP800 2520) - always replace together as matched set, check mechanical seal (OO CP800 1060) condition
Motor Runs Hot
Likely Cause: Viscosity greater than rating, voltage/frequency differ from rating, thermal overload set too low, motor defect, or pump overloaded
Action / Part: Note: Motor normally runs too hot to hold. Reduce product viscosity, verify voltage matches motor rating (240V or 415V), adjust thermal overload setting (three-phase), check motor current draw, verify motor (CPE1251CSM for 240V, CPE1253M for 415V)
Thermal Overload Trips Out
Likely Cause: Low voltage, too frequent starting (single-phase), overload set too low (three-phase), pump overloaded, or motor not protected from sun
Action / Part: Verify voltage at motor terminals, reduce start/stop frequency, adjust thermal overload setting, check current draw against motor rating, provide motor shade/ventilation
Pump Starts Too Often (Pressure System)
Likely Cause: Incorrect pressure switch setting, leaking non-return valve, leak in system, pressure tank too small, or air pre-charge too low
Action / Part: Adjust pressure switch cut-in/cut-out settings, replace non-return valve, repair system leaks, install larger pressure tank, check/adjust pressure tank air pre-charge, inspect air bag in pressure tank
Incorrect Rotation (Three-Phase)
Likely Cause: Three-phase wiring incorrect
Action / Part: CRITICAL: Remove pump from motor before checking direction. Running pump in reverse can cause rotor to unscrew from motor shaft causing severe damage. Correct rotation is clockwise viewed from shaft end. If incorrect, swap any two of the three-phase supply wires
