Troubleshooting, Common Faults & Solutions

No Discharge from Pump

Likely Cause: Incorrect rotation direction, pump unprimed, or drive train breakage

Action / Part: Verify motor rotation matches nameplate, prime pump with liquid, inspect flexishaft (26A) and drive clamp assembly (27A, 27B) for damage

Loss of Capacity / Reduced Flow

Likely Cause: Worn rotor/stator elements, insufficient NPSH, air entering supply line, or pump speed below rated

Action / Part: Replace rotor (25A) and/or stator (22A), increase suction head, check all pipe joints for air leaks, verify pump speed settings

Pump Stalls at Start-Up

Likely Cause: Product viscosity exceeds rated level, low voltage supply, or discharge blockage

Action / Part: Heat product to reduce viscosity, verify electrical supply voltage is correct, clear discharge line obstructions, check relief valve operation

Excessive Noise and Vibration

Likely Cause: Coupling misalignment, insecure pump mounting, or shaft bearing failure

Action / Part: Check alignment to motor/gearbox, tighten all baseplate mounting bolts, inspect and replace shaft bearings if worn (lubricate with BP LC2 grease)

Excessive Gland or Seal Leakage

Likely Cause: Worn drive shaft, damaged mechanical seal, or inadequate gland flushing

Action / Part: Replace drive shaft (32A) if gland area shows wear grooves, install new mechanical seal assembly (10A), ensure proper seal flush fluid flow

Motor Overheats / Excessive Power Consumption

Likely Cause: Delivery pressure exceeds rated limit, gland overtightened, pump speed too high, or coupling misalignment

Action / Part: Check for delivery line blockages, loosen packed gland to allow slight drip (2-3 drops/minute), reduce pump speed, verify alignment

Rapid Stator Wear / Premature Failure

Likely Cause: Dry running, abrasive product, product temperature exceeding rating, or stator turning in housing

Action / Part: Install dry-run protection device, ensure pump always primed before starting, cool product or upgrade to temperature-rated stator, tighten stator tie bars (95A) to correct torque

Flexishaft Damage / Failure

Likely Cause: Excessive vibration, improper drive clamp torque, or protective coating damage

Action / Part: Replace flexishaft assembly (26A), ensure drive clamp bolts (P513) torqued to 17 Nm in correct sequence, verify drive clamp pins (27B) properly installed
