Sandpiper HDF3 and HDF4 Heavy Duty Flap Pumps
Spare Parts for Sandpiper HDF3 3" and HDF4 4" Heavy Duty Flap Valve Diaphragm Pumps
Product Summary
Genuine OEM spare parts for the Sandpiper HDF3 and HDF4 heavy duty flap valve air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps, the 3" and 4" flanged workhorses that move solids up to 75 mm in mine dewatering, sumps, tailings and wastewater sludge across Australia. Wet End Kits, flap valve assemblies, diaphragms, hinge and wear pads, air valve and pilot valve parts are all listed in the Warren Rupp service manuals for the aluminium, cast iron and 316 stainless builds, so tick what you need and we’ll match them to your nameplate, such as HDF4-A.
Spare Parts List
✓ Tick the parts you need. Sandpiper HDF3 and HDF4 parts are matched to the pump's model code (wetted, diaphragm/valve and non-wetted material codes), so the full model number on your nameplate is all we need to get them right. Not sure which items? Add a photo of the nameplate and we’ll work it out for you.
| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Wet End Kit | Sandpiper’s wet end overhaul set: two diaphragms, four flap valves, hinge pads, wear pads and gaskets in one elastomer combination. Aluminium and stainless pumps take the 476.249 series, cast iron pumps the 476.250 series. | |
| Air End Kit | Sleeve and spool set, pilot valve body assembly, bumpers, bushings, gaskets, O-rings, seals and actuator plungers. Fit it when the pump stalls, cycles erratically or leaks air; an Air End Refurbishment Kit without the valve parts is also listed. | |
| Diaphragm (item 17) | The flexing membranes that pump the slurry, in nitrile (Buna), neoprene, Santoprene or urethane. Cast iron pumps use the 286.098 diaphragm; change both at once if cracked, stretched at the bolt holes or attacked by the product. | |
| Flap Valve Assembly (item 21) | The hinged flap check valves that let large solids pass where a ball would jam. Listed in nitrile, neoprene, Santoprene, Hytrel and urethane; renew the set when flaps are torn, curled or no longer seal and the pump loses prime. | |
| Flap Valve Seat (item 45) | The stainless seat each flap closes against, held with studs and nylon stop nuts. Replace a seat that is eroded, gouged or bent so the new flap can seal fully. | |
| Wear & Consumable Parts | ||
| Hinge Pad (item 35) | Cushions the hinge end of each flap where it is clamped. EPDM pads go with Santoprene flaps and neoprene pads with urethane flaps; swap them with the flaps. | |
| Wear Pad (item 36) | Takes the abrasion where solids strike inside the chamber. Aluminium and stainless lists show 570.012.371; cast iron pumps use 570.010.360, .364 or .365. Renew when worn thin or cut. | |
| Flange Gaskets (items 22, 23) | Two sets of four conductive flange gaskets that seal the follower flanges and chamber joints and keep the pump earthed. Fit new ones whenever the wet end is split. | |
| Sealing Ring (item 24) | Seals the manifold and elbow joints on the suction and discharge sides. Change if flattened or leaking, and always when the manifolds come off. | |
| Air Valve Sleeve & Spool Set (item 1-B) | The matched sleeve and spool inside the main air distribution valve, with six O-rings, bumpers and end-cap gaskets. Worn or scored sets cause stalling and air bypass; the two halves are not interchangeable. | |
| Pilot Valve Assembly (item 3) | Signals the main air valve to shift at the end of each stroke. If the pump cycles once and stops, check its sleeve and spool O-rings, the gasket and the two actuator plungers. | |
| Muffler (item 28) | Quietens the 1" NPT exhaust. Clean or swap it if it is blocked or iced; product in the muffler points to a ruptured diaphragm. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Diaphragm Plates, Inner & Outer (items 37, 38) | Clamp each diaphragm to the rod. Stainless pumps use 612.268.110 outer plates and cast iron pumps 612.090.010; replace plates worn to a sharp edge, as they cut diaphragms. | |
| Diaphragm Rod (item 43) | Links the two diaphragm assemblies through the intermediate bushings. Replace if scored or marked, as surface damage wears the bushings and U-cup seals. | |
| Outer Chamber (item 16) | The wetted chamber that takes the full slurry flow and carries the flap valve studs. Replace if eroded thin, cracked or corroded. | |
| Manifold & Elbows (items 27, 18, 19) | The suction and discharge manifolds and elbows that form the flanged ports. Replace when abrasive solids have worn through the bends; HDF4 builds add 4" adapter flanges. | |
| Intermediate (item 4) | The centre section between the inner chambers that holds the rod bushings, U-cup seals and pilot valve. Replace if cracked or worn at the bushing bores. | |
| Air Valve Assembly (item 1) | The complete no-lube main air distribution valve with body, end caps and sleeve/spool. A stroke indicator version (031.089.156) is also listed; fit a whole assembly if the body is damaged. | |
How we confirm the exact part: HDF3 and HDF4 parts change with the wetted build (aluminium, cast iron or stainless), the diaphragm/flap elastomer and the port size. Item and part numbers shown are as printed in the Sandpiper service manuals for the HDF3-A/HDF4-A, HDF3M/HDF4M and HDF3-SS/HDF4-SS. The nameplate model code sets the materials: HD (heavy duty), F (flap), size 3 or 4, D porting, a wet end letter (A, B, K, N or S), the design level and the construction letter, e.g. HDF3-A design level 7. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the correct parts for your pump.
Models
Read the model code left to right: HD series, F for flap design, pump size (3 or 4; 3M or 4M on cast iron), D for bottom discharge, the wet end material letter (A neoprene/urethane, B nitrile, K neoprene/Hytrel, N neoprene, S Santoprene), design level, then construction: A aluminium, II cast iron, S stainless wetted with aluminium air end.

Part numbers as printed in the Sandpiper service manuals: HDF3-A/HDF4-A aluminium (hdf3asl7sm-rev1125), HDF3-SS/HDF4-SS stainless (hdf3asl7sm-rev0625) and HDF3M/HDF4M cast iron (hdf3dl2sm-rev0226). Item numbers on this page follow the aluminium list; the cast iron and stainless lists number some items differently. What differs by build: stainless pumps have 316 stainless outer chambers, manifolds, elbows and outer plates on an aluminium air end; cast iron pumps change the diaphragm, plates, chambers, manifold, intermediate, wear pads and air valve body. Manual figures: aluminium 0–1,173 L/min, cast iron 0–1,147 L/min, stainless 0–1,124 L/min; solids to 75 mm; heads to 88 m; maximum operating pressure 8.6 bar; displacement per stroke 6.08 L (Al), 4.37 L (CI), 6.4 L (SS); 3" or 4" 150# ANSI style flanges, 3/4" NPT air inlet, 1" NPT exhaust. Individual diaphragm, check valve and seat numbers are grouped by the material code at the end of each part number; we confirm the exact Wet End Kit for your build from the nameplate at quote.
Troubleshooting
Pump cycles once and stops
Likely cause: discharge pressure at or above the air supply pressure, air valve or intermediate gaskets fitted with holes out of line, or a bent or missing actuator plunger. Action: raise the inlet air pressure, refit the gaskets with the holes aligned and pull the pilot valve to check both actuator plungers (item 41).
Pump cycles but will not prime or deliver
Likely cause: a flap valve held open by debris, torn or worn flaps and seats, a blocked suction line or screen, or air leaking in on the suction side. Action: open the wet end and clear the valve pockets, renew worn flap valves (item 21) and seats (item 45), and check the suction gaskets and pipe joints.
Pumped product coming out of the exhaust
Likely cause: a ruptured diaphragm, loose diaphragm plates, or a diaphragm stretched around its centre or bolt holes by too much inlet or air pressure. Action: fit new diaphragms (item 17), check the plates are tight and not worn sharp, and confirm the elastomer suits the product and temperature.
Diaphragms failing early
Likely cause: cavitation, a high flooded suction pressure, a product that attacks the elastomer, or plates fitted backwards or worn. Action: enlarge the suction line, lower the inlet pressure or add a back-pressure device, pick a better-suited elastomer and check plate orientation.
Pump running sluggish, stalling or icing
Likely cause: wet air freezing in the exhaust, too much lubricator oil, clogged manifolds or an undersized air line. Action: de-ice and clean the muffler (item 28), fit a point-of-use air dryer, turn the lubricator down or remove it and upsize the air supply.
Uneven strokes from side to side
Likely cause: excessive suction lift, an undersized suction line, an obstructed or worn flap valve, or air trapped in one chamber. Action: fill the chambers to prime on high lifts, match the suction line to the port size, service the flaps and seats, and purge the chambers through the vent plugs.
