| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Wetted End Kit | Warren Rupp’s wet-end set for the S05: the diaphragm pair, four check balls and four seats in one elastomer combination (nine kits listed, 476-199-354 to 476-199-661). Fit one whenever the pump is opened for a diaphragm or valve fault. | |
| Air End Kit | Seals, O-rings, gaskets, bumpers and retainers together with a complete air valve and pilot valve assembly. The fix for a stalling or short-cycling S05, and the manual advises a full centre-section rebuild after any diaphragm rupture. | |
| Diaphragm (item 15) | The flexing membrane that does the pumping, offered in eight elastomers plus a one-piece bonded PTFE/nitrile version; PTFE overlay builds add item 16 (286.096.600). Change both at once if cracked, stretched at the bolt holes or chemically attacked. | |
| Check Ball (item 2) | The four solid balls that open and close the suction and discharge valves. Replace if they are worn undersize, flattened or swollen, or if the pump runs but will not prime or hold flow. | |
| Check Valve Seat (item 35) | The seats the balls close against. UHMW and PTFE seats are listed alongside aluminium, 316 stainless and carbon steel seats; the metal seats need the item 28 O-rings. Replace when grooved or eroded. | |
| Wear & Consumable Parts | ||
| Seat & Manifold O-Ring (item 28) | Seals each metallic seat in its bore and, on aluminium pumps, the manifold joints (a PTFE seal 720.064.600 is also listed). Fit new ones whenever the seats or manifolds come off, matched to your elastomer code. | |
| U-Cup Shaft Seal (item 34) | Seals the diaphragm rod where it passes through the intermediate bracket, keeping drive air out of the wet side. Renew at every diaphragm service or if air bubbles appear in the discharge. | |
| Actuator Plunger, Bushing & Retaining Ring (items 31, 7, 32) | The plungers that the inner diaphragm plates push to trip the pilot valve, running in bushings held by retaining rings. A bent or missing plunger leaves the S05 stopped after one stroke; fit new retaining rings whenever these are serviced. | |
| Pilot Valve Sleeve & Spool (items 3-B, 3-D) | The sleeve and spool inside the pilot valve that signal the main air valve to change over. Replace them, or just their O-rings (560.033.360 and 560.023.360), when the pump hesitates or will not shift. | |
| Air Valve Sleeve & Spool Set (item 1-A) | A matched, precision-ground pair that directs air to each diaphragm chamber, so the sleeve and spool are only supplied together. Replace if scored or if the pump leaks air through the exhaust while stalled. | |
| Muffler (items 1-G, 25) | Quietens the exhaust air. A muffler choked with ice, oil or product will slow or stop the pump; clean or swap it, and check the diaphragms if pumped fluid shows up in it. | |
| Air Inlet, Air Valve & Pilot Valve Gaskets (items 19, 20, 21) | Seal the air inlet cap, main air valve and pilot valve to the intermediate bracket (plastic centres use pilot gasket 360.101.360). Fit new ones with the holes aligned; a misplaced gasket can stop the pump cycling. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Outer Chamber (item 14) | The two wetted fluid chambers that clamp the diaphragm edges. Replace if cracked, corroded or eroded thin at the valve pockets; the suffix follows your wetted material code. | |
| Manifolds & Elbows (items 22–24, 17, 18) | Aluminium pumps use manifold 518.157.157 with suction and discharge elbows; stainless and Alloy C pumps use one-piece suction (518.158.x) and discharge (518.159.x) manifolds. Replace if cracked, worn or to change port threads. | |
| Diaphragm Plates, Outer & Inner (items 29, 30) | Clamp the diaphragm to the rod; the one-piece bonded diaphragm takes its own inner plate (612.221.330). Replace plates worn to a sharp edge, which cut diaphragms, or any fitted the wrong way round. | |
| Diaphragm Rod (item 33) | Links the two diaphragm assemblies so they stroke together. Replace if bent, worn or marked where it runs through the shaft seals; grip it in soft jaws only when servicing. | |
| Intermediate Bracket (item 4) | The non-wetted centre section that carries the air valve, pilot valve and rod seals. Replace if cracked or if the bores are worn; it must match the non-wetted material code (A/Y, P or C). | |
| Air Valve Assembly (item 1) | The complete main air distribution valve, listed in versions for aluminium and polypropylene centres, stroke indicator pins, stainless hardware and high temperature. Swap the whole valve when the body is damaged. | |
How we confirm the exact part: item and part numbers on this page are as printed in the Sandpiper S05 Metallic service manual, where the last three digits of each part number give the material. The nameplate model code sets the build, e.g. S05B1ABWANS000 is an S05 with aluminium wetted parts, nitrile diaphragms and balls, UHMW seats, an aluminium centre, NPT ports and an integral muffler. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the correct parts for your pump.
Models
Read the model code left to right: S, size 05, check valve type B, design level 1, then the wetted material (A, S, H or X), diaphragm/ball code, seat code, non-wetted material (A, Y, C or P), porting, pump style, pump option and kit option, e.g. S05B1ABWANS000. The builds below are those the S05 Metallic manual lists.

Troubleshooting
Pump strokes once then stops
Likely cause: discharge pressure at or above the air supply pressure, air valve or intermediate gaskets fitted out of line, or a bent or missing actuator plunger. Action: raise the air pressure, refit the gaskets (items 19–21) with the holes aligned and check the actuator plungers (item 31) with the pilot valve removed.
Pump will not run at all
Likely cause: too much line lubrication, not enough air, a blocked discharge or muffler, or a fault in the air or pilot valve. Action: turn the lubricator down or off, check air line size and compressor capacity, clear the discharge and muffler, then strip and inspect the air valve and pilot valve.
Pump cycles but will not prime or gives no flow
Likely cause: cavitation, a blocked suction line, balls stuck, missing or not seating, or worn balls and seats. Action: move the pump closer to the product, clear the suction and the valve pockets, and fit new check balls (item 2) and seats (item 35) or a Wetted End Kit.
Pump sluggish, stalling or icing up
Likely cause: moisture in the air freezing at the exhaust, over-lubrication, clogged manifolds or an undersized air line. Action: clean and de-ice the muffler, fit a point-of-use air dryer, reduce lubrication and use a larger air line.
Product coming out of the exhaust
Likely cause: a ruptured diaphragm or loose diaphragm plates, or a diaphragm stretched by excessive inlet or air pressure. Action: fit new diaphragms (item 15) with tight plates, confirm the elastomer suits the product, and rebuild the centre section with an Air End Kit.
Diaphragms failing early
Likely cause: cavitation, too much flooded suction pressure, the wrong elastomer for the product, or plates worn sharp or fitted backwards. Action: enlarge the suction line, reduce inlet pressure, choose an elastomer suited to the product and renew worn diaphragm plates (items 29, 30).
