Southern Cross PVMI Pumps
Spare Parts for Southern Cross PVMI Vertical Multistage Pumps
Product Summary
Genuine OEM spare parts for the Southern Cross PVMI inline vertical multistage pump (and the PVMIE version with its integrated variable-speed drive), used across Australia for water supply, pressure boosting, irrigation, water treatment, cooling and wash-down duties. Every PVMI shares the same build (a stack of impellers and diffusers on one shaft inside a sleeve casing, sealed by a mechanical shaft seal at the top), so tick what you need and we’ll match the parts to your nameplate, such as PVMI 5 16 SQQE.
Spare Parts List
✓ Tick the parts you need. Southern Cross PVMI parts are matched to the pump family, number of stages, material build, shaft seal code and motor kW, so the model and serial number on your nameplate are all we need to get them right. Not sure which items? Add a photo of the nameplate and we’ll work it out for you.
| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Mechanical Shaft Seal (item 57) | The shaft seal fitted under the top cap, where the shaft leaves the pump. Southern Cross warns that dry running damages it, so replace it at the first sign of a leak or after the pump has run dry. | |
| Impeller (item 18) | The impellers stacked on the shaft, one per stage (18/18A on PVMI 32–90, where some builds carry reduced-diameter stages). Replace if worn, cracked or rubbing, or when head has fallen off. | |
| Neck Ring (item 24) | The ring in each diffuser that sets the running clearance at the impeller eye. Renew when worn, as a worn neck ring lets water slip back between stages and the pump loses head. | |
| Casing O-ring (item 82) | The O-rings that seal the sleeve casing (item 48) to the pump head and base. Fit new ones whenever the pump is pulled down; the parts list offers EPDM or Viton on most sizes. | |
| Rotating Element (item 60) | The complete hydraulic stack: shaft, impellers, diffusers, neck rings and bearings, built to suit your model and stage count. The quick way back to full output when several stages are worn. | |
| Wear & Consumable Parts | ||
| Neck Ring Retainer (item 25) | Holds the neck ring in place in each diffuser. Change it along with the neck ring if it is distorted or no longer grips the ring. | |
| Diffuser with Bearing (item 13) | Diffuser stages that carry an intermediate bearing to steady the shaft along the stack. Replace if the bearing is worn or the vanes are eroded or cracked. | |
| Middle Bearing (item 14) | The intermediate shaft bearing that sits in the bearing diffusers. Replace if worn oval or loose on the shaft, as play here lets impellers rub and causes noise. | |
| O-ring (item 66) | The O-ring that sits with the mechanical shaft seal at the top of the pump. Renew it every time the seal is changed. | |
| Middle Diffuser Kit (item 101) | Southern Cross’s per-stage set built around the diffuser (item 12), as bracketed on the parts drawing. Use when one or more stages are worn rather than renewing the whole stack. | |
| Impeller Kit (item 103) | The per-stage impeller set listed for the larger PVMI 32, 45, 64 and 90 families. Use when impellers are worn or damaged. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Pump Shaft (item 37) | The shaft that carries the impeller stack, made to suit the stage count. Replace if bent, worn at the seal or bearing positions, or damaged at the coupling end. | |
| Pump Casing (item 48) | The sleeve that encloses the stack between the pump head and base, cut to length for the stage count. Replace if dented, corroded or cracked. | |
| Inlet Casing / Neck Ring Base Kit (item 104) | The first-stage set at the bottom of the stack (Inlet Casing Kit on PVMI 1–20, Neck Ring Base Kit on PVMI 32–90). Renew if worn or eroded where the flow enters the first impeller. | |
| Coupling Assembly (item 43) | Joins the motor shaft to the pump shaft inside the motor stool, sized to the motor kW. Replace if worn, cracked or slipping; set it up with the manual’s coupling adjustment steps. | |
| Pump Base (item 59) | The inline base casting with the suction and discharge ports. Replace if cracked (for example by frost) or badly corroded. | |
| Staybolt (item 81) | The tie bolts that clamp the pump head, casing and base together, made to length for the stage count. Replace if stretched, corroded or thread-damaged. | |
How we confirm the exact part: Southern Cross PVMI parts depend on the pump family, the number of stages, the material build, the shaft seal code and the motor kW. The item numbers shown are the positions printed on the drawings in the Southern Cross master parts list for the range; your nameplate gives the model (e.g. PVMI 5 16 SQQE: family 5, 16 stages, seal code SQQE) and the serial number, which together pin down the build. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the correct parts for your exact pump.
Models
The model on your nameplate starts with the family (nominal flow in m³/h) followed by the number of stages and the seal code, e.g. PVMI 5 16 SQQE. The sizes below are a selection from the Southern Cross parts lists; other stage counts are covered too.

Pressures are the 50 Hz maximum operating pressures from the Southern Cross PVMI/PVMX installation and operating instructions (60 Hz limits differ). Stage ranges and item numbers are from the Southern Cross Master Parts List (April 2014); suffixes such as -1 and -2 mark builds with reduced-diameter impeller stages. Maximum inlet pressure also varies by family and stages, so check your duty against the manual. PVMIE drive and controller parts are not covered by these documents; send us the nameplate and we’ll confirm.
Troubleshooting
Pump runs but delivers no water
Likely cause: pump not primed, air in the suction pipe or pump, a blocked or failed foot or check valve, a leaking suction pipe, or a three-phase motor turning the wrong way. Action: fill the pump with liquid before starting, bleed the air, clear or renew the foot/check valve, repair the suction pipe and swap two motor leads if rotation is reversed.
Delivery surges or is not constant
Likely cause: the pump is drawing in air, inlet pressure is too low, or the pump or suction side is partly blocked. Action: improve the suction conditions and clean out the pump and suction pipe.
Vibration and noise
Likely cause: cavitation, pump and motor shafts out of alignment, worn motor bearings, or worn vibration dampers. Action: reduce the flow or improve suction conditions, realign the coupling (item 43) per the manual, and renew the motor bearings or dampers if worn.
Thermal protector trips after the pump has run for a while
Likely cause: worn motor bearings, an obstruction inside the pump or pipework, flow above the nameplate range, or a liquid thicker than water. Action: renew the motor bearings, strip and clean the pump and piping, throttle the discharge back into the nameplate range, and check the motor size for the liquid.
Starter overload trips as soon as power is switched on
Likely cause: a jammed pump, a blown fuse, loose cabling, low supply voltage or a faulty motor winding. Action: clear any obstruction, then check fuses, cabling and supply voltage before testing the motor.
Pump spins backwards when stopped
Likely cause: a failed foot or check valve, or a leak in the suction pipe. Action: renew the check valve and repair the suction pipe.
