Southern Cross Starline Pumps
Spare Parts for Southern Cross Starline Close-Coupled End-Suction Pumps
Product Summary
Genuine OEM spare parts for the Southern Cross Starline close-coupled ISO end-suction motorpump, used across Australia for irrigation, farm and town water supply, building services and general industrial transfer. Every Starline shares the same build (impeller, backplate with a mechanical seal, an extension shaft clamped to the motor shaft, and optional bronze or stainless wear rings), so tick what you need and we’ll match the parts to your nameplate, such as 100x80-160.
Spare Parts List
✓ Tick the parts you need. Southern Cross Starline parts are matched to the pump size and shaft module, plus the construction code (casing, impeller and seal materials), impeller diameter and motor frame, so the size, model and serial number on your nameplate are all we need to get them right. Not sure which items? Add a photo of the nameplate and we’ll work it out for you.
| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Mechanical Seal (item 21) | Seals the shaft where it passes through the backplate; carbon/ceramic/nitrile or silicon carbide/Viton faces. Southern Cross advises a new seal whenever the old one has been taken apart, and dry running will wreck it. | |
| Mechanical Seal & O-Ring Kit | The overhaul kit listed in the Southern Cross parts list for each Starline shaft module: the mechanical seal plus the O-rings needed to put the pump back together after opening it. | |
| Impeller (item 3) | The closed impeller on the motor’s extension shaft, in cast iron, zinc-free bronze or 316 stainless. Replace if worn, eroded or cavitated; order full diameter or the trimmed diameter stamped on the nameplate. | |
| Impeller Wear Rings (items 9, 12) | Optional rings on the impeller front and rear eyes that take the wear instead of the impeller. Fitted to restore running clearances when the impeller and body have worn; rear rings are not listed on No. 4 module STD builds. | |
| Casing O-Ring (item D) | Seals the backplate to the volute casing. Fit a new one every time the casing is opened and make sure the joint faces are clean. | |
| Wear & Consumable Parts | ||
| Sealing Ring – Volute Casing (item 11) | The stationary ring in the casing eye that runs against the impeller front wear ring. Renew it with the impeller rings when output has dropped from internal wear. | |
| Sealing Ring – Backplate (item 10) | The matching stationary ring in the backplate behind the impeller. Replace together with the rear impeller ring to bring clearances back. | |
| Impeller Nut (item 46) | Locks the impeller on the shaft taper and is tightened to the torque given for your shaft module. Replace if the thread or flats are damaged. | |
| Impeller Washer (item 7) | The washer that sits under the impeller nut. Fit a new one whenever the impeller has been removed. | |
| Impeller Key (item A) | Drives the impeller from the extension shaft. Replace if it is worn, burred or a loose fit in the keyway. | |
| Volute Casing Plug (item B) | The plug in the volute casing used for priming or venting. Replace if the thread is damaged or it will not seal. | |
| Discharge Casing Plug (item C) | The drain plug on the discharge side of the casing. Replace if lost, corroded or leaking. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Volute Casing (item 2) | The pump body that turns the flow into discharge pressure, in cast iron, zinc-free bronze or 316 stainless. Replace if cracked, badly eroded or corroded; a worn eye can often be fitted with wear rings instead. | |
| Backplate (item 4) | Closes the back of the casing and carries the mechanical seal seat. Replace if the seal recess or joint face is damaged or the backplate is worn through. | |
| Extension Shaft (item 15) | The stainless shaft clamped onto the motor shaft that carries the seal and impeller. Replace if scored under the seal, bent or damaged; special refitting instructions apply. | |
| Motor Shaft Clamp (item 14) | Clamps the extension shaft to the motor shaft. Matched to the motor frame size; renew if damaged or when the motor is changed. | |
| Bell Housing (item 13) | Joins the motor to the backplate and casing. Replace if cracked or if a different motor frame is being fitted. | |
| Motor (415 V, 3 phase) | The flange-mounted electric motor listed for each Starline size by kW and pole count. We quote a matching motor from the details on your nameplate. | |
How we confirm the exact part: Southern Cross Starline parts depend on the pump size, shaft module, construction code (casing, impeller, shaft and seal materials), impeller diameter and the motor frame fitted. The item numbers and letters shown are as printed on the sectional arrangement in the Southern Cross owner’s manual; your nameplate gives the size (e.g. 100x80-160), model and construction code (e.g. MED11C-F, CZ5CM) and serial number. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the correct parts for your pump.
Models
The size is stamped on the nameplate as suction x discharge – nominal impeller diameter in mm (e.g. 100x80-160); the model field starts with the three-letter pump code (e.g. MED). The sizes below are those in the Southern Cross Starline parts list.

From the Southern Cross Master Parts List (Star-Line section, April 2014) and the Starline owner’s manual. Seal size is the nominal mechanical seal bore listed per shaft module; impeller nut torques are 70, 90, 150 and 340 Nm for the 19, 24, 30 and 36 mm AF nuts. No. 4 module sizes are listed as STD and RNR builds; only the RNR build lists rear wear rings. Duty data depends on impeller diameter and motor; see the Pentair product page.
Troubleshooting
Pump runs but delivers little or no water
Likely cause: suction or discharge valve closed, clogged strainer or footvalve, air leaks in the suction line, the pump not fully primed, or too much suction lift. Action: open the valves, clear the strainer and footvalve, fix suction leaks and re-prime; check the casing O-ring (item D) and mechanical seal (item 21) for air leaks.
Flow has dropped off over time
Likely cause: internal wear from abrasive solids, cavitation or corrosive liquid, or a partly clogged impeller. Action: clear the impeller and check it for wear; replace the impeller (item 3) or fit wear rings (items 9–12) to restore clearances.
Mechanical seal leaking
Likely cause: the pump has run dry, or a used seal was refitted after the pump was opened. Action: fit a new mechanical seal (item 21) with clean, unscratched faces, and keep the pump primed before starting.
Motor drawing too much power
Likely cause: head lower than the design point so too much water is pumped, an impeller larger than needed, dense liquid, a bent shaft or debris jammed in the pump. Action: throttle the discharge valve or trim the impeller, and check the extension shaft (item 15) and impeller for damage.
Excessive vibration
Likely cause: a foundation that is not rigid enough, a partly clogged impeller out of balance, or worn bearings. Action: firm up the foundation, clean the impeller and renew the motor bearings if worn.
Noisy running
Likely cause: a foreign body in the impeller or casing, the impeller binding, worn motor bearings, poor priming or cavitation. Action: clear the obstruction, check impeller clearances, re-prime the pump and reduce suction lift if it is cavitating.
