Sulzer ABS XFP Pumps
Spare Parts for ABS XFP Submersible Sewage Pumps
Product Summary
Genuine and compatible spare parts for the Sulzer ABS XFP submersible sewage pump, the Premium Efficiency (IE3) workhorse of Australian council sewage pump stations, treatment plant inlet works and industrial effluent sumps, from the 1.3 kW PE1 up to the 550 kW PE7. Every XFP shares the same build (ContraBlock, vortex or chopper impeller, adjustable bottom plate, double SiC/SiC mechanical seals and a DI-monitored seal chamber), so tick what you need and we’ll match the parts to your nameplate, such as XFP 100E-CB1.4-PE40/4.
Spare Parts List
✓ Tick the parts you need. XFP wear parts are matched to the hydraulic (volute size and impeller type), the motor frame (PE1 to PE7) and the motor rating, so the full type code on your nameplate is all we need to get them right. Not sure which items? Add a photo of the nameplate and we’ll work it out for you.
| Select | Wear / Service Item | Function & when to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Common Service Kits | ||
| Impeller | The ContraBlock, vortex or chopper impeller (channel and skew types on the big PE7 hydraulics). Replace if the vanes or leading edges are worn, chipped or cracked, or if flow stays low after the bottom plate gap has been reset. | |
| Bottom Plate (Wear Plate) | The adjustable, slotted wear plate under the impeller that keeps the gap tight (max. 0.2 mm for best performance) and sheds rags. Replace once the adjustment is used up or the plate is grooved, cracked or corroded. | |
| Mechanical Seal Set (Upper & Lower) | The double mechanical seals between the hydraulic end and the motor (plus the inner lip seal on PE3). Replace on a DI leakage alarm or water in the seal chamber oil, and at every major overhaul; seals are never reused once removed. | |
| O-ring, Gasket & Seal Ring Set | Every O-ring, gasket and plug seal ring in the pump. Renew whenever the pump is opened; Sulzer requires new seal rings each time a plug screw is removed. | |
| Overhaul Parts Set (Bearings & Seals) | Upper and lower bearings, lip seals and mechanical seals with the full O-ring set, for the full overhaul Sulzer recommends every second year. Matched to your motor frame and rating. | |
| Seal Chamber Oil / Coolant | White mineral oil (PE1 and PE2), hydraulic oil (PE3 to PE7) or water/propylene glycol for cooling-jacket units. Change at service intervals, after a DI alarm, or whenever the oil is milky or contaminated. | |
| Other Core Parts | ||
| Power & Control Cable | Submersible motor cable (standard, Ex or shielded EMC for VFD duty). Replace if the sheath is cut, crushed or swollen, or water has wicked along it; PE1 and PE2 use a plug-in 10-pole terminal block for quick changes. | |
| Volute (Pump Casing) | The cast volute that carries the bottom plate and discharge flange. Replace if eroded, cracked or the bottom plate lugs are damaged beyond repair. | |
| Impeller & Bottom Plate Fixing Parts | The impeller fixing hardware and the bottom plate securing and adjusting screws. Replace at every impeller or bottom plate change, or if the screws have seized with corrosion. | |
| Leakage Sensor (DI) & Thermal Sensors | The seal-chamber moisture probe and the stator (and bearing, on larger frames) temperature sensors. Replace if the DI reads below spec with clean oil, or a sensor is open-circuit. | |
| Bearings (Upper & Lower) | Lubricated-for-life ball bearings (a roller upper bearing on PE3). Replace if the pump is noisy or vibrating, or at the overhaul interval; bearings are not reused once removed. | |
| Pedestal Bracket, Seal & Adapter Bracket | The coupling bracket and seal that dock the pump on its pedestal, plus Sulzer adapter brackets that let an XFP drop onto an existing pedestal and guide rail. Replace if the seal leaks back into the well or the guide piece is worn. | |
| Complete Replacement Pump | When a rebuild doesn’t stack up, we quote a like-for-like XFP from the type code on your nameplate, with an adapter bracket where needed. | |
How we confirm the exact part: XFP parts depend on the hydraulic (discharge size, volute opening, impeller type and size), the motor frame (PE1 to PE7), motor rating and poles, approval (standard or Ex) and whether a cooling jacket is fitted. Your nameplate carries the type code (e.g. XFP 100E-CB1.4-PE40/4), item number and serial number, which together pin down the build. Tick the items above and add a nameplate photo, and we’ll confirm the correct parts for your exact pump.
Models
Spare parts are available across the XFP range. The first digits of the hydraulic on your nameplate (e.g. XFP 100E) give the discharge size in mm, and the letter is the volute opening (C, E, G, J, then T to X on PE7).

Troubleshooting
Pump stopped on a seal (DI) leakage alarm
Likely cause: water past a worn or cracked mechanical seal, a damaged O-ring, or a loose or damaged oil plug letting liquid into the seal chamber. Action: check the plug and its seal ring, drain the oil and look for water; renew the mechanical seals and O-rings and refill with fresh oil. If the alarm returns soon after an oil change, the pump needs a workshop seal overhaul.
Pump switching on and off by itself
Likely cause: the stator thermal sensors are tripping on overheating, from a partial blockage, low liquid level uncovering the motor, low voltage or a lost phase. Action: the motor restarts once cool; check the thermal relay settings, supply voltage and current, clear any blockage, and confirm the stop level keeps the hydraulic submerged.
Low flow or head
Likely cause: the impeller to bottom plate gap has worn open, a worn impeller, wrong direction of rotation, or a partly closed valve. Action: reset the bottom plate gap (max. 0.2 mm); if there is no adjustment left, replace the bottom plate and impeller. Check rotation (clockwise viewed from above) and that the gate valve is fully open.
Ragging, blockage or overload trips
Likely cause: rags and wipes wrapping the impeller, often made worse by an open bottom plate gap that lets fibres lodge. Action: try a reset from the panel; if it trips again, lift the pump, remove the bottom plate, clear the impeller and check both for damage. Reset the gap on reassembly; a chopper or ContraBlock Evo impeller suits heavy rag loads.
Excessive noise or vibration
Likely cause: worn or failed bearings, a partly clogged or damaged impeller, or wrong direction of rotation. Action: clear and inspect the hydraulics and check rotation; if the noise continues, the bearings (and seals, which are replaced with them) need renewing in a workshop.
No flow after installation or a lift
Likely cause: an air lock trapped in the volute. Action: shake the pump or raise and lower it in the liquid until air bubbles stop; vent dry-installed units back to the well through the volute vent tapping.
Milky or dirty oil at the annual check
Likely cause: early seal wear letting moisture into the seal chamber, before the DI alarm trips. Action: change the oil straight away and measure the DI resistance (should be above 100 kΩ); plan a seal and O-ring change before the next season.
