How we confirm the exact part: Part numbers on this page are as printed in the Tsurumi (Europe) parts lists for 50 Hz models, and service guidance is from the Tsurumi operation manual (B-10140-10). Voltage versions of some parts (for example motor protectors) differ, so send the nameplate details or a photo and we’ll confirm the right part before we quote.
Service Intervals & When to Replace
- Mechanical seal: check the oil every 6 months or 3,000 hours. If it is milky or has water in it, the mechanical seal is letting water in and needs replacing.
- Oil: change it every 12 months or 6,000 hours with turbine oil VG32 (non-additive), to the volume in the table above.
- Packing & O-rings: fit a new set every time the pump is opened or inspected.
- Impeller & suction cover: a clear drop in head or flow usually means a worn impeller or a blocked strainer. Worn impellers have sharp edges, so handle with gloves, and check the impeller turns freely without rubbing after refitting.
- Overhaul: Tsurumi recommends a full overhaul every 2 to 5 years, even if the pump seems fine.
Models
This page covers the KRSU822-51. For other KRS models see the KRS and KRS2 pages. The model is on the pump nameplate.

Troubleshooting
Pump fails to start
Likely cause: Pump new/repaired and tested: supply voltage may not match rating plate; earth insulation or winding continuity fault; Pump previously in satisfactory use: as above, plus impeller jammed (stone, debris, rust between impeller blades and suction cover after long disuse). Action: Check applied voltage agrees with rating plate; At cable free end (never open motor) check earth-lead insulation (over 20 M Ohm) and winding continuity; on 3-phase check the three winding ohm values are within ±10%; Check impeller is free.
Pump starts but stops immediately, causing the motor protector to actuate
Likely cause: Motor windings or cable damaged; Impeller blocked or choked; If pump is new, wrong voltage or frequency; Voltage too low (most common cause); Inexact frequency from diesel generator; Wrong direction of rotation; Liquid of too high viscosity or density; Wrong setting of thermal overload unit. Action: Do not open motor; check insulation/continuity as above; Check supply voltage under load; Correct rotation, overload setting, supply.
The pump's head and pumping volume is lower
Likely cause: Wrong direction of rotation; Piping resistance too high; Impeller worn, partially choked or severely narrowed by hard deposits; Strainer or inlet blocked; Pump draws air, or liquid is partly volatile or contains high level of gas in solution. Action: Correct the listed cause (manual gives causes only).
The pump generates noise or vibration
Likely cause: Wrong direction of rotation; Solid object (stone, etc.) in volute; Impeller severely damaged, or bearing damaged; Pump lying on its side and drawing a little air. Action: Repair damaged impeller/bearing at once; High wear rate likely if pump lies on side drawing air - reposition.
